The Beginning

Empennage crate

On Dec 13 2021 I received my Van’s Aircraft RV-10 empennage kit.  It was a little less than 11 feet long by 4 feet wide and a foot and a half tall.  It weighed in at 319 pounds… all according to XPO Logistics.  Luckily I have a neighbor with a forklift so the process of offloading and getting it to the hanger was drama free. Sadly I worked a night shift the day it arrived so I had to wake up to receive the crate then go right back to sleep, no inventory.

All I could do was think about what was in the box all night long.  When I got home, I took a nap and got right into the inventory.  Starting off with a hanger makes spreading out a possibility and makes for a good picture.

Empennage inventory

Van’s sure has crating down to an art and the only thing missing one backordered hardware baggy of cotter pins and a stop nut, nut plate and a pan head screw.  They quickly got the missing items to me and I was ready to start building.
